System Support and Track Details
A: We offer bottom-supported, top-hung, and dual supported (top & bottom) systems.
-
Most of our systems are bottom-supported, meaning the panels rest on a bottom track and place no additional load on your header — only your frame or roof load needs to be considered.
-
Freeway systems are top-hung, allowing for a clean threshold design.
The HD option offers adjustable weight distribution between top and bottom tracks, providing extra support for larger or heavier systems.
-
A: Our HD (Heavy Duty) system is a dual-supported (top and bottom) roller configuration that offers smoother operation by distributing the panel weight — typically 70% on the bottom and 30% on the top, with adjustable ratios depending on installation needs. This option provides extra support for larger or heavier panels.
We recommend the HD system in the following cases:
-
When panel width exceeds 38” and/or height exceeds 98”
-
When an egress door is attached to the last folding panel (not to a fixed jamb) and the panel exceeds 38” wide and/or 82” high
-
When using triple-pane laminated glass panels
-
When our team identifies structural need based on your CAD drawing review
-
A: We offer 7 bottom track types to suit different systems and site conditions:
-
Standard Combo Bottom Track – For weather-exposed areas; can be surface-mounted or recessed
-
Standard UPVC Bottom Track – Designed specifically for our UPVC systems
-
Surface Mount Bottom Track – For protected areas where recessing isn’t feasible
-
Minimal Recess Bottom Track – For protected areas with hardwood or tile flooring
-
Freeway Bottom Track – Used with freeway swing door systems
-
Automotive Bottom Track – Built to withstand vehicle traffic (drive-over rated)
-
ClearView Bottom Track– Specifically designed for our ClearView (frameless) systems
-
A: You can view detailed schematics here:
Bottom Track Drawings (Google Drive)
Our most popular track is the combo surface/recess mount model, offering weather resistance and flexible installation.
Panel Configuration and Stacking
A: The extension depends on your panel size. For example, if your door is 96" wide and you choose a 3-panel configuration, each panel would be approximately 32" wide. So when opened and stacked, they would extend out around 32 inches from the wall.
A: Each panel is approximately 2 inches thick when closed. When stacked, the total thickness depends on the number of panels in your configuration. For example, in a 98" wide system with 3 panels, the panels will stack to approximately 6 inches at the side, allowing you to fully open and utilize the entire opening with minimal obstruction.
A: In folding systems, a “panel” refers to one section of a folding door — not a door. So a “3-panel folding door” means one system made up of 3 folding panels, not 3 individual doors.
Typically, the price does not change based on the number of panels. A 3-panel or 4-panel system with the same overall size (width × height) will cost the same.
Exception:Freeway/HD configurations with integrated swing doors may be priced differently.
Weather Protection
A: Yes, we recommend the FoldA Aluminum 57-High Wind series specifically built for extreme weather, such as freezing climates and hurricane zones.
It features;
-
AZON thermal barriers, the strongest thermal barrier available - link (AZON)
-
Compliance with Florida and International Building Codes
-
Triple-pane Low-E Argon glass for enhanced energy performance
Optional foam-filled frames for added insulation
-
A: Our systems are equipped with storm-rated weather seals that protect all outer edges and tightly seal between each panel using a patented interlocking double seal system. Our patented finger-safe seal design is the safest in the industry, great for families!
A: Like all folding or sliding systems with bottom tracks, there is a chance that sand or debris can accumulate.
To manage this:
-
Weep holes should be installed along the outer edge of the bottom track to allow proper drainage of sand and water.
-
These weep holes are not pre-drilled and should be custom-installed on-site by your contractor based on your site conditions (e.g., recessed concrete, trim, or decking).
-
In cases where the track is recessed into concrete, weep holes may need to be installed higher for proper drainage.
-
Our systems also feature outer edge panel seals that help prevent debris from entering the track in the first place.
-
Thermal Break
A: While both systems appear similar, the FoldA Aluminum 57 features a built-in thermal break in the frame, offering enhanced energy efficiency. This thermal barrier reduces heat and cold transfer and minimizes condensation – making it a better choice for challenging climates or energy-conscious projects.
A: AZON is a high-performance thermal barrier used in aluminum frames. It is widely recognized as the strongest thermal break available for commercial systems like curtain walls and storefronts.
A:
-
Forms a true non-metal-to-metal barrier, reducing heat transfer and condensation.
-
Offers superior impact resistance, shear strength, and heat distortion resistance
-
Meets the strict standards of the High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) under both the International Building Code and Florida Building Code.
Helps achieve lower U-Factors and SHGC values for better energy efficiency.

See below:
1/. 404.2.5 Thresholds.
Thresholds, if provided at doorways, shall be 1/2 inch (13 mm) high maximum. Raised thresholds and changes in level at doorways shall comply with 302 and 303.
Thresholds at Doorways. The 1991 Standards, at section 4.13.8, require the height of thresholds at doorways not to exceed 1/2 inch and thresholds at exterior sliding doors not to exceed 3/4 inch. Sections 404.1 and 404.2.5 of the 2010 Standards require the height of thresholds at all doorways that are part of an accessible route not to exceed 1/2 inch. The 1991 Standards and the 2010 Standards require raised thresholds that exceed ¼ inch in height to be beveled on each side with a slope not steeper than 1:2. The 2010 Standards include an exception that exempts existing and altered thresholds that do not exceed 3/4 inch in height and are beveled on each side from the requirement.
EXCEPTION: Existing or altered thresholds 3/4 inch (19 mm) high maximum that have a beveled edge on each side with a slope not steeper than 1:2 shall not be required to comply with 404.2.5.
2/. 404.2.3 Clear Width.
Door openings shall provide a clear width of 32 inches (815 mm) minimum. Clear openings of doorways with swinging doors shall be measured between the face of the door and the stop, with the door open 90 degrees. Openings more than 24 inches (610 mm) deep shall provide a clear opening of 36 inches (915 mm) minimum. There shall be no projections into the required clear opening width lower than 34 inches (865 mm) above the finish floor or ground. Projections into the clear opening width between 34 inches (865 mm) and 80 inches (2030 mm) above the finish floor or ground shall not exceed 4 inches (100 mm).
EXCEPTIONS:
In alterations, a projection of 5/8 inch (16 mm) maximum into the required clear width shall be permitted for the latch side stop.

A:
-
Height: Measure from the bottom of your header beam to the top of the finished floor. Take this measurement in 3 places; left side, right side, and center. Use the shortest measurement as your starting point for the next step. Then subtract 1" for leveling and add 1.5" if you plan to recess the bottom track.
-
Width: Measure from left to right trimmer stud. Take this measurement from the top of the trimmer stud and the bottom. Use the shortest measurement as your starting point for the next step. Subtract 1" to allow for adjustment during installation.
-
A: Your rough opening should be 1 inch larger in both height and width than the door system ordered.
Example:
-
Ordered system: 143" W × 79" H
-
Rough opening: 144" W × 80" H
-
A: Our systems are designed for simple and efficient installation, making them among the easiest in the industry. A typical 16' × 8' multi-fold system can be installed in under 4 hours by a crew of 3 — assuming the rough opening is correctly prepared, with no additional concrete, framing, or finish work required.
A: Always consult a licensed structural engineer, architect, or licensed or contractor to ensure compliance with local codes. Here are some general guidelines:
-
Maximum header deflection should not exceed L/720 of the span or ¼", whichever is less.
-
Most of our systems are bottom-supported, so no significant load is transferred to the top header.
-
The top track functions as a guide rail and allows for vertical movement in case of deflection.
-
Panel weight is approximately 5.5 lbs/ft² (2.5 kg) of door surface area for an aluminum unit with dual-pane glass.
-
